Exposed laminated beams and a polished slab, with the whole north wall glazed. The owners wanted one room that did everything, so that is what it is.
Extension, St Albans
A 1950s bungalow with a new flat-roofed wing on the back. We deliberately did not try to make the new part match the old one.

We come and look
Half an hour on site tells us more than an hour on the phone. No charge, and no obligation at the end of it.

You get a real price
A fixed-price contract with the allowances written down, so you can see what is an estimate and what is not.

One person runs it
You get a name and a number. Not a call centre and not a different foreman every fortnight.

We finish, then we come back
A defects visit at three months, because a house moves in its first year and some things only show up then.
Who you are dealing with
Stonecourt is a small Canterbury building company. There are seven of us, and there have been for a while. We take on three or four builds a year plus a couple of renovations, which is as much as we can do without handing your job to somebody you have never met.
Most of our work comes from people who saw a house we built and asked who did it. That is a slower way to grow a business and it is the only one we have found that keeps the standard where we want it.
They started when they said they would and finished when they said they would. After two previous builds, I did not think that happened.
